Leah

Twelve -year-old Leah was born with a large lump on her spine, and tests showed that she had spina bifida. She also had a heart defect and at 11 months old had an operation to fix it.

Leah’s tenth birthday was a significant milestone in Leah’s life to date. It signified a new start. Briscoe Group helped the family purchase a trampoline to surprise her on this special day unaware at this time of how this gift would play a part in improving her development. Previously Leah’s activities were considerably limited by her lack of bowel control but she is now able to jump on her trampoline, go to sleepovers or school camps, confident in the knowledge she will be able to be ‘socially acceptable’ in that area. It has also acted as a draw card to invite other kids to play and give Leah the confidence of her own ability and improve her social relationships. Although in the past her vocabulary has been limited, this new confidence has seen Leah’s speech and cognitive ability improve dramatically
