Briar Miller

Briar Miller.JPGTen year old Briar was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in October 2007 at Waikato Hospital after a routine visit to her doctor with a suspected virus. Blood tests revealed her parents worst possible nightmare, she had cancer. Briar was rushed to Starship Hospital for an urgent bone marrow aspiration to ascertain exactly what type of cancer she had. An intensive life-saving course of chemotherapy treatment began the very next day.

The next two and a half years were tough for the whole family while Briar underwent an aggressive course of chemotherapy. In February 2010 she completed her chemotherapy treatment and is now officially “In Remission” but will continue to be closely monitored by her oncologist for another five years. Briar will still be required to have blood tests for most of her life.

She lives in Hamilton with her parents Rochelle and Brent, big brothers Brook, Jayden and Joel and their two cats Coco and Lily.

Briar likes trampolining, dancing, shopping, going to the movies and listening to music.  She loves playing with her cat Lily, hanging out with her friends and just generally having fun and giving anything a go!

Cure Kids continues to fund Leukaemia research at Otago University, Dunedin including the zebra fish facility and its equipment.
