Simon Maddock

Eight year old Simon was born with kidney reflux, a condition in which one or both valves in the ureters are not working properly. His condition has resulted in many years spent in and out of hospital undergoing tests and treatment.

Last year Simon also went to Starship Hospital so that doctors could monitor his condition.

Simon’s illness means that he has been tired his whole life, and he also suffers from frequent vomiting and mood swings and for many years did not have enough energy to play sport. He has just been able to start playing soccer again in the goalie position which he loves doing.

As well as taking medication to help manage his condition, Simon exercises, eats well and makes sure he drinks plenty of water.

Simon lives with his mum Lyndamarie and their cat Patsy in Auckland.

He likes watching Glee, playing Lego, riding his bike and playing soccer and
t-ball.
