Wayne Cherry Sixteen year old Wayne lives in Lower Hutt with his family. Wayne was diagnosed with T Cell Lymphoma Cancer by his heart on 14 February 2008.Treatment for his cancer is a three year programme. Wayne’s heart was compressed with the large tumour and fluid, which put stress on his heart. Prior to being diagnosed, the doctors had many theories as to what was wrong, from pneumonia to peanuts stuck in his throat and it was an incredibly trying time for the family. Wayne is a motorcross champion gaining eighth place when he raced at the New Zealand Grand Prix only three days prior to going into hospital. The doctors from Christchurch could hardly believe he could actually ride a motocross bike in the condition he was in, let alone finish in the top ten in the country! After his initial three month stay at Christchurch hospital and Ronald McDonald house, Wayne is now on chemotherapy tablets and other medication, with regular lumbar punches of chemotherapy in his spine. Wayne is an incredible young man, full of life and positivity and approaches all things with a can-do attitude. |
