Fundraising
What assistance will Cure Kids Provide?
Where possible, our fundraising managers would love to meet with you and help brainstorm and plan your fundraising. We have a wealth of fun and creative ideas!
We will send all teams a Fundraising Toolkit full of ideas of what works. We can also send you an official race ID to assist when you are fundraising, together with stickers you can give out to people. Official event graphics will be available to use for flyers/posters to help you fundraise. We encourage you to make any collateral personalised to your team; however, we ask you to send through a draft for us to sign off before you print.
Cure Kids has collection buckets and donation tins that you can use for your fundraising initiative. Just let us know what you need in advance!
When does the fundraising close-off?
At midday the Friday before the event begins. If you want to keep fundraising past this date you’re very welcome!
What if I don’t raise the $7K?
The fundraising minimum of $6,000 (plus entry fee of $1,150) is a mandatory requirement for entry into the event. To keep it fair, we can only let teams compete who have reached this total. If you find yourself unable to raise this amount, you will not be able to participate in the event; however you are not liable to Cure Kids to pay any outstanding amounts. Any money fundraised for Cure Kids up to the point of withdrawing will not be refunded.
It is very important to work out your fundraising strategies early on, just in case you need to go for option B. While FundraiseOnline.com is an excellent tool, many competitors in the past have found they need to use a variety of methods – the more creative the better! Cure Kids will provide a Fundraising Toolkit with proven fundraising ideas, which you can adapt and use as you wish. If you have any concerns please discuss them with Cure Kids.
How can I get the fundraising money to Cure Kids?
Upon receipt of your Entry Form we will send you an invoice for $1000.00 (+GST).
As the entry fee includes a GST component, this payment can only be made by cash, cheque or Direct Debit into Cure Kids Ltd bank account. All other fundraising monies can be paid by cash, cheque, Direct Debit or FundraiseOnline (as there is no GST component).
Cheque : Please ensure all cheques are made out to Cure Kids Ltd. We can only issue receipts to the cheque holder, so if your sponsors would like a receipt, please ask them to write the cheque out to Cure Kids Ltd.
Cash: Please deliver with a list of any sponsors who would like receipts, including their address details. The cash and list must of course balance.
Deposit: Funds can be deposited into our Cure Kids Ltd Account, details as follows:
Cure Kids Limited
Account Number 02-0192-0017922-00

If you are using this method PLEASE send us an email with details of the deposit and your team name or competitor name so we know who to attribute money to. Once again, if you would like a receipt please provide us with those details at the time.
FundraiseOnline
FundraiseOnline web page
All people who donate online receive an automatic receipt from Cure Kids along with a thank you letter. This money is forwarded to Cure Kids and we’ll allocate all donations made on each page to the respective team. Please do not use the offline facility; we will update this section of your page once funds have been received at the Cure Kids office.
Contact Summer Haycock (09)370 0287 or s.haycock@curekids.org.nz for help setting up your page.
Just to be clear, Cure Kids will record all money received and attribute to your teams’ efforts. In order to make sure we are crediting the right team, please ensure all money sent or banked clearly says which team it is for. You will all be working so hard to fundraise, and we want to credit the right people – the sought after fundraising trophy is at stake!
Sponsorship and Media
What can be offered to private/individual sponsors?
Exposure on your FundraiseOnline (
www.fundraiseonline.co.nz) page (along with official event sponsors) and on any written material you prepare. Please ensure that anything you propose to give out regarding the event is approved by Cure Kids first. You can include your individual sponsors in your team name and on your pack, but once the race begins only fancy dress can be worn. (Bring your own clothes for evening).
Can we use the official event logo and Cure Kids Logos?
Yes and we encourage it, just please show us before printing anything. We‘ll be sending you the event logo and Cure Kids logo – let us know if you require it in additional formats.
What about media coverage?
We encourage you to get as much as you can! It may bring in more support for your team, as well as highlight the Cure Kids message. We are always looking for unique story angles – once again, the more creative you are the more likely you are to get coverage. And remember to let us know when you have a great story to tell.
How do I get to/from the event?
Cure Kids will provide you with ONE airfare either to Queenstown for the start of the Challenge (for North Island teams) or from the finish line in Auckland (for South Island teams). These flights are from the major centres only (Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch or Queenstown).
Eg 1 – if you live in Hamilton we will provide you with a flight from Auckland to Queenstown for the beginning of the event. You will need to make your way to Auckland for the flight, and make your own way home from Auckland at the end of the weekend.
Eg 2 – if you live in Christchurch, you need to make your own way to Queenstown for the beginning of the event, and we will provide you with a flight from Auckland to Christchurch at the end of the weekend.
During the event
Is it essential to be at the briefing on Wednesday night?
Yes this is where the fun begins – we have you booked in to stay at the
Novotel Queenstown Lakeside Hotel. It is absolutely essential that you are there, checked in and chilled! The official event starts at 6.30pm at the hotel. Important race information is given during the briefing and you get to meet the other competitors.
What are the guidelines for Fancy Dress?
Dressing up is compulsory, we will provide a race bib with Race logo and ID number which must be securely attached to the front of your clothing and be visible at all times. You must also wear official race ID (a lanyard). On a practical note, it is worth thinking about costumes that you can travel in easily, and that will be warm. And remember you are representing Cure Kids!
Can we make our own signs?
Yes you can, but remember you have a long way to carry them and your destination changes daily. An eye-catching sign goes a long way to getting a ride—and fast! It is really important that your sign includes the 2011 official event logo or in words “Accor Hotels $10 Queenstown Challenge”.
Please check your design with Cure Kids before printing.
Is there a vehicle to carry our luggage?
NO. You must carry everything you need and in the past the competitors have found a sturdy backpack to be the most convenient. Remember to have a trial run before you leave. One competitor found when she first tried to lift her backpack she fell backwards and five pairs of shoes had to be removed!
Can I invite my partner/family to the prize giving ceremony in Auckland?
The prizegiving will be in Auckland on the Saturday evening, following completion of the event. Limited seats will be available, so get in early and let Cure Kids know. There will be accommodation provided for out-of-towners that evening, so make sure you let us know if you will need this.
What happens if one of the team becomes unwell or for some reason can’t finish the race?
The remaining team member can join up with another team if they wish.
