What an amazing event! Sixty two players from across the country joined Cure Kids on the internationally-acclaimed private Hills Golf Course in support of Cure Kids.
In its fifth year, the tournament has raised over $550,000 for Cure Kids. With stiff competition, heavy banter and fabulous prizes and entertainment The Hills Cure Kids Open 2011 definitely didn’t disappoint.
A few highlights from the two days included:
-
Wind kept the scores high for both days play. The overall
winner of the tournament was Rod Duke from Briscoes Group – congratulations Rod!
-
The best dressed team went to "The Green Team". Consisting of long-time Cure Kids supporters Graeme Tait of Columbus Coffee and Paul Van Dorp from Rocpac with friends Randy Wulff, Arron Harding and Richard Toulson – complete with matching belts. Thanks to the generosity of Over the Top, The Green Team was treated to a breathtaking helicopter trip over the stunning backdrop of Queenstown and Arrowtown.
-
Teams were reminded where their much-appreciated financial support is going, with a riveting talk from Dr Julia Horsfield about the Zebrafish facility. Cure Kids has been a significant funder of this facility – which is researching leukaemia amongst other illnesses.
-
This was followed by a poignant speech by Cure Kids Ambassadors Alex and Lizzie McKay telling their emotional story of living with Cystic Fibrosis. The twins together with their parents and older brother Andrew were treated to a weekend at the Hills, courtesy of long term supporter The Golf Warehouse.

The Fine Wine Delivery Company ensured that guests enjoyed exquisite wines, which was perfect at the end of each challenging day on the course.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and sponsored this very special event. Alex sums up the support of everyone best: “We don’t suffer from Cystic Fibrosis, we live with Cystic Fibrosis. It is Cure Kids’ know how, and your generosity that gives us every day we have. And it is Cure Kids’ know how, and your generosity that gives us hope that one day a family won’t even have to live with CF”.
