National Photographic Contest Raises a Further $10,000 for Cure Kids

The 2008 Photokids Contest has raised $10,000 for Cure Kids and attracted intense interest around the country, with thousands of votes being cast to decide the winner.   The contest is now in its 14th year and during that time over $320,000 has been raised for Cure Kids.

The national portrait contest is held annually and this year has been won for the fifth time by Auckland photographer John Cowan whose winning subject was Talon Shelford who was 2yrs 10 months at the time the photograph was taken.

Over 340 photographs entered in the Photokids Contest which were displayed in shopping malls around New Zealand, where votes were cast to choose regional finalists in 12 separate categories.  The 12 National winners were selected by internet voting.

Talon who is the son of Tania Goldfinch and Thomas Shelford of Manurewa, Auckland, and the family received a $5000 Holiday Shop travel package as the winning prize.

Cure Kids Fundraising Manager Thelma French says the ongoing support of the Photokids Charitable Trust is outstanding and this money goes to providing vital medical research for children with life threatening illnesses.
