Cure Kids announces Liam Willis as new Chief Executive Officer
Cure Kids has announced the appointment of Liam Willis as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 27 July 2026.
Willis brings more than 20 years of experience working across the charitable and not-for-profit sectors in New Zealand and the United Kingdom, most recently as Executive Officer of the Gut Cancer Foundation
Willis’ appointment follows Frances Soutter stepping down from the role on 8 May 2026 following ten years leading the organisation.
Cure Kids Board Chair Franceska Banga says Willis was selected following an extensive search for an experienced leader that can lead Cure Kids’ mission of supporting research and initiatives that improve child health outcomes.
“The Board appointed Liam for his ability to grow purpose-led organisations sustainably. He brings a genuine passion for the life-changing difference that research funding can make for our tamariki and rangatahi in Aotearoa, alongside deep experience in fundraising and commercial leadership of charitable organisations. We are delighted to welcome him to lead the Cure Kids team, and are deeply grateful for the incredible service and dedication from Frances Soutter over her ten years of leadership.”
During his seven years at the Gut Cancer Foundation, Willis led the organisation through a transformational period of growth, tripling organisational income, doubling investment in research, and developing New Zealand's first supportive care service for people affected by upper gastrointestinal cancers. He served as Vice Chair of Cancer Action Network Aotearoa, contributing to national conversations on cancer strategy and system change.
Willis says he is excited to work alongside the Cure Kids team, its corporate and research partners, and donors to support research and initiatives that improve child health outcomes.
"It is an honour to take up the leadership of an organisation with such a proud history and record of impact. Cure Kids has an extraordinary legacy, and I am excited by what we can achieve together through strengthening partnerships, growing sustainable funding, and ensuring the research we fund continues to make a difference for children across Aotearoa."
