Research Field

Vision in children

Location

University of Auckland

Professor Dakin's work seeks to understand the parts of your brain that support vision, and how they can go wrong during childhood.

Starting with a PhD in Scotland, he ended up (by way of Canada) as a Professor at University College London in the UK. Professor Dakin moved to New Zealand in 2014 to run New Zealand’s only School of Optometry and Vision Science. In New Zealand, his research focuses on detecting visual problems in children (particularly using new technologies such as eye-tracking), and differences in the way children see the world to better understand conditions such as autism spectrum disorder.
